I had the pleasure of working with legendary Manchester grime MC, Wrigz, last week to film a freestyle for Mic Check MCR TV. I ain’t gonna front, I was pretty bowled over by his lyricism as well as his famously smooth delivery.
I’d been planning for a while to put together some short film side projects and so decided for this shoot to do a little experimenting with picture profiles and colour grading. I wanted to try for a slightly grimier, cinematic look. Check out the results below.
It’s also well worth checking out the interview I shot with him where he discusses… well, pretty much everything: Manchester grime’s burgeoning sense of identity, how to navigate the music industry as an artist, the Black Lives Matter movement, racism, Brexit, politics, the next generation of artists coming up in the city, the importance of collaboration… I mean, let’s just say there was barely a topic he didn’t cover in this compelling and wide ranging conversation. Take a look for yourself below.
